Pickleball in Killeen, Texas
Killeen's public pickleball scene now has two distinct homes: scheduled indoor open gym at the First National Bank Texas Family Recreation Center and four dedicated outdoor courts at Long Branch Community Park. The indoor schedule is the best choice for arriving alone; Long Branch works well for evenings and self-organized groups.
Where to Play Pickleball in Killeen
First National Bank Texas Family Recreation Center
1700 East Stan Schlueter Loop, Killeen, TX 76542. The city converts its two basketball gyms for pickleball open play. All-ages sessions run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. is reserved for seniors. A daily pass is $5. Monthly memberships cost $25 for adults, $20 for youth, and $15 for seniors; SilverSneakers members receive complimentary access when eligible. The center has locker rooms, showers, an indoor track, and fitness equipment.
Long Branch Community Park
1101 Branch Drive, Killeen, TX 76543. Four dedicated outdoor hard courts opened here in September 2025 with permanent nets, court furniture, and lights. The courts are public and free. A local group gathers Thursday and Sunday at 7 p.m., making those the strongest times for players arriving without a foursome. The larger park also includes a pool, athletic fields, trails, playgrounds, and picnic space.
Heights Athletic Club
701 Sun Meadows Drive, Harker Heights, TX 76548. About ten minutes east of Killeen, this private club serves the wider Bell County area with indoor pickleball programs, events, lessons, and reserved play. It is the nearest full-service alternative when city open-gym hours do not fit.
Pickleball Lessons in Killeen
The Family Recreation Center runs free youth camps using the USA Pickleball curriculum. Its 2026 programs served ages 8 to 14 and covered fundamentals, gameplay, and sportsmanship. Heights Athletic Club offers adult coaching and clinics nearby. Private instructors who teach at the recreation center and other Killeen courts are listed in the Coaches section.
Open Play and Pickleball Events
The most dependable recurring play is the city's Monday-Wednesday-Friday indoor open gym, Tuesday senior session, and the Thursday and Sunday 7 p.m. group at Long Branch. These give Killeen players both daytime indoor and evening outdoor options every week.
Killeen Parks and Recreation also produces seasonal youth camps and special events. In 2026 it introduced Glow Pickleball at the Family Recreation Center and offered free spring and summer youth camps. New city events appear on the Killeen recreation calendar with dates, ages, fees, and registration details.
Visitor Tips
If you are coming alone, use the indoor open-gym schedule and pay the $5 daily pass; the extended five-hour blocks create enough turnover to find partners. Seniors have a dedicated Tuesday session. At Long Branch, Thursday and Sunday at 7 p.m. offer the best chance to join local rotation. Bring your own paddle and outdoor balls to the park, while the recreation center supplies the gym and nets but may have limited loaner gear.
